The Business of Health in Africa: Ubrica Premier U.S. – Africa Relations Conference focuses on health business in Africa
College Station, Texas, April 1, 2016. The business of health in Africa is the focus of Ubrica Premier U.S . – Africa Relations Conference that will take place on April 25 -28, 2016, at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center, on 801 University Drive East, in College Station, Texas. The conference strives to build business relationships and partnerships between Americans and Africans in service of creating strong business ties that will promote improvement of health of people living in Africa.
Conference participants will spend three days exploring business opportunities in health promotion and disease prevention, pharmaceutical and medical devices research and development, manufacture of generic drugs and devices, building health facilities, and managing high quality health services.
Attendees will participate in engaging workshops exploring important topical areas of health production in Africa. Critical areas of focus in the workshops will be agriculture, food and nutrition, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, medical supplies, hospitals and clinics. In addition, conference workshops will address opportunities in energy generation, water supply, and physical infrastructure needed to improve health in Africa.
Conference participants will be treated to final presentations of Ubrica One project by students and faculty from Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture, College of Education and School of Public Health on April 26, at 5.00 pm, at the Hilton Hotel. This presentation will include several key projects. The architectural conceptual designs of 52 models of a Ubrica One Retail Clinical Center (URCC) specifically designed for each of the 47 Kenyan counties. Each URCC is a self-sustaining entity composed of primary care center with pharmacy, imaging and laboratory services, a retail store and co-operative workshop.
Participants will also view the landscape master plan of Ubrica One at Suswa, a 4,330-acre all inclusive development with multiple land uses designed as real estate for life science. Ubrica One at Suswa will be home to world class hospitals, biomedical research centers, pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, and biomedical devices companies. In addition, Ubrica One at Suswa will feature world class shopping mall, full-density gradient residential housing schemes, agricultural research university and education center, a hospitality university and world class experiential resort hotel. Ubrica One is designed for an immersive experience in health, wellness, healing, medical care, and the scientific phenomenon, laced with the deep tones of African culture, wildlife, and tropical savannah living.
“This visionary project provides an opportunity to improve greatly the health of all the people in Kenya by raising the standard of delivering comprehensive health care” said George Mann, the Ronald L. Skaggs, FAIA Endowed Professor of Health Facilities Design at the College of Architecture in Texas A&M University. “The project is a network of coordinated primary health and retail centers throughout the 47 counties of Kenya, working in collaboration with the proposed medical city on 4,330 acres in Nakuru County, Kenya. This project will make Kenya self-sufficient in providing medical care to its people” Professor Mann further explained.
A 5 kilometer race dubbed, “Run for Health Africa,” will precede conference activities on April 25, 2016 at 6.00 pm. The purpose of the race, which will take place at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course at 3242 F and B Road, in College Station, Texas, is to draw attention of the global community to the power of collaboration and partnership in service of health and wellbeing for all.
